Best course platform in 2026, ranked

Five ways to sell a lesson. The platform is not the course. Shipping the videos is.

If you want the default creator school, Teachable. If you sell files and a community without a learning-OS, Podia. Some buttons are affiliate links.

We scored time to first paid student, fee honesty, and who should skip. We did not watch your webinar funnel.

Best course platform 2026: the ranking

Filter by the job, then open a review for the full argument. Scores are editorial, 1–10 — they match the badge, not a vendor lab.

1
Best for most people

Teachable

The default course school. Fast to first sale, a student app, transaction fees on cheap plans.

Teachable is #1 because a first course needs a school, not a stack. Read the transaction fee before you call it $39.

From
~$39/mo + fees on Basic
Job

Catch
Transaction fees until you upgrade

Why it ranks

  • Fast first course
  • Familiar student experience
  • Payments included

Watch out

  • Fees on cheaper plans
  • Sites can look like every other Teachable school

Buy if You have lessons and you want a school this month.

Skip if You sell a lot of non-course files. Podia. You wanted a marketing OS. Kajabi.

2
Best control

Thinkific

More site control, no transaction fees on paid plans historically — confirm current. A school you can dress up.

Thinkific is the control badge. Second because most first-timers should ship on Teachable before they become theme people.

You will customize

Why it ranks

  • More control of the school
  • Fee story is often better than Basic Teachable
  • Apps/community extras

Watch out

  • You can lose a week theming
  • Still a landlord

Buy if Teachable looked too same-y and you will actually touch the theme.

Skip if You wanted the fastest default. Teachable. You wanted digital products beyond courses. Podia.

3
Best simple digital

Podia

Courses, downloads, memberships, email. One simple store for digital stuff without Kajabi rent.

Podia is the simple digital-products row. Third because “best course platform” searchers often wanted a school, not a store.

From
~$33/mo
Includes
Courses, files, email-ish
Catch
Less of a “serious LMS”

Why it ranks

  • Simple digital store
  • Not just courses
  • Less bloated than Kajabi

Watch out

  • Not the deepest LMS
  • You may still want Kit/Beehiiv later

Buy if The course is one SKU next to a Notion template and a membership.

Skip if You needed SCORM and a corporate academy. LearnWorlds. You wanted the Teachable student app default.

4
Best expensive OS

Kajabi

Courses, email, funnels, sites. The all-in-one you buy when you will actually use all-in-one.

Kajabi is fourth because it is a business OS priced like one. Wrong as a first receipt. Right when the stack is already three tools.

From
~$149/mo
Includes
Courses, email, pipelines
Catch
You must use the whole thing

Why it ranks

  • One OS if you commit
  • Landing pages + email + products
  • Community extras

Watch out

  • Price
  • Leaving is a project

Buy if You will replace Teachable + an ESP + funnel tools and you already make money.

Skip if You have not sold the course yet. Teachable or Podia. $149 is not a motivational expense.

5
Best interactive

LearnWorlds

A real academy: interactive video, assessments, websites. More LMS than creator-store.

LearnWorlds is the academy badge. Fifth because most creators needed a store, not an LMS. The score is for the job.

From

Catch
Real features sit above Starter

Why it ranks

  • Serious learning features
  • Looks like a school
  • White-label path on higher plans

Watch out

  • Overkill for a simple course
  • Price climbs with the demo you watched

Buy if The course needs assessments, interactive video, a campus — not just Vimeo behind a paywall.

Skip if You have five videos and a Stripe button. Teachable or Podia.

Best course platform by job, not by logo

A $39 course school and a $199 Kajabi OS are not the same business.

Best course school

Teachable. Thinkific if you want more design control and fewer “Teachable-looking” sites.

Best simple digital products

Podia. Courses plus downloads plus email without Kajabi rent.

Best fancy academy

LearnWorlds for interactive. Kajabi if you want marketing OS and you will use it.

Course platforms FAQ

What is the best platform to sell a course?

Teachable for most first courses. Podia if the course is one of several digital products. Kajabi only if you will use the marketing OS.

Should I use Teachable or just Stripe on my host?

A host plus Memberful/Stripe is more work. Teachable is rent for not building that. If you already have WordPress on Hostinger, you have a choice — do not pretend you do not.
